  • How a Chiropractor Can Help

There is a lot of confusion concerning the chiropractors and their ability to handle lateral pelvic tilt. Some people may ask is there anything like a lateral pelvic tilt chiropractor?

In this article: Lateral pelvic tilt chiropractor, we will be answering some questions relating to chiropractors and lateral pelvic tilt.

Who is a Chiropractor?

A chiropractor is a healthcare professional focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders, with an emphasis on treatment by manual adjustment and/or manipulation of the spine.

Most chiropractors seek to reduce pain and improve the functionality of patients, as well as to explain how they can take care of their own health through exercise, ergonomics and other therapies to treat pain.

What is Lateral Pelvic Tilt?

Lateral Pelvic Tilt

A lateral pelvic tilt is when the pelvis moves/shifts from side to side, so much so that one hip is higher than the other. This leads to unilateral muscle imbalances throughout the body.

The erector muscle group of the spine often affects this inclination and should always be taken into account in this situation. To allow our lumbar spine to be in a neutral position, the pelvis must be aligned with our shoulders. One side should never be higher than the other.

Some Questions about Chiropractors and Lateral Pelvic Tilt

In this section of the article, I shall be dealing with some of the questions people ask about chiropractors and their ability to treat lateral pelvic tilt.

Is it Possible that a Lateral Pelvic Tilt is Fixed to How it was Before?

Yes, it is possible, but you have to work on it. It is neither muscular nor pharmaceutical. It is structural and requires going to the office of your corrective care chiropractor several times a week. Corrective care is very specific and includes physiotherapy protocols with exercise, traction, and chiropractic for joint manipulation. One will not work without the other. Some chiropractors will tell you that they do corrective care, but if it’s only one piece (adjustment), it won’t change anything in the long run.

If I have Lateral Pelvic Tilt, Should I see a Chiropractor or a Physical Therapist?

A lateral pelvic tilt is fairly common and should not be a cause for concern. It is easily repairable. A chiropractor or physiotherapist should be able to correct it. Consult your chiropractor or therapist beforehand to see if they have ever had experience, and if so, how many they have done and “how” they do it. It’s a simple manual therapy procedure, and once you’ve done it, you should be able to learn how to do it yourself.

A chiropractor will take x-rays, and the chiropractor will probably find something wrong with your spine or pelvis or knee or neck and any combination of things. Don’t worry, the spine/skeleton is a very dynamic structure and it’s supposed to move. And, if you choose a chiropractor, make sure you are only working on what you went there for: your pelvis. If the chiropractor says that your pelvis is fine but you have a problem with your lower back, ask him to show you what’s wrong on a skeleton, then also on your x-ray.

The same goes for the physiotherapist. Ask them to take the time to show you on a skeleton what the problem is and how it should be fixed. A physiotherapist would make you exercise. Here’s the truth: if your pelvis is rotating, your muscles are contributing to the problem and need to be fixed, or the problem may come back. When the pelvis is turned, the muscles (especially the hamstrings, quadriceps, piriformis, etc.) react to the change in length by tightening or decreasing the tone of rest. If these muscle changes are not treated, they can misalign the pelvis and cause rotation or other problems.

Getting back to our original question, a physiotherapist or chiropractor should be able to help you. This problem can be corrected in a single visit, or if the problem is particularly stubborn, 2 to 3 visits and you should learn how to correct it yourself if it recurs. A good physical therapist or chiropractor should be able to resolve your problem quickly and effectively if this is really what is going on. If this is not your problem, you can make more visits.

How to correct Lateral Pelvic Tilt

Can Chiropractors Correct Lateral Pelvic Tilt?

Of course! But, it depends on the chiropractor and the condition he is treating.

It really depends on whether it’s a functional problem or an anatomical problem. If it is functional, it may mean that the pelvis is actually turned in a certain way due to external stress (i.e. incorrect posture, etc.). If the problem is anatomical, it may actually be due to a difference in leg length (that is, one leg is shorter than the other).

Usually, if the problem is anatomical, the adjustments won’t help.

About half of chiropractors deal only with the spine. This includes the pelvis and sacroiliac joints. This kind of treatment will work in acute conditions but is rarely a long term treatment/correction in more chronic cases. This is why the frequency of treatment and the total duration of the treatment plan may seem excessive, but the type of treatment provided is normal.

Chiropractors who also treat muscle imbalances in the hips, legs, and spine will usually have treatment plans that have less frequent office visits, shorter overall treatment plans and more results durable than those who choose to adjust the spine alone. However, when a typical treatment can only last 5 minutes with a single adjustment, a treatment that includes all the muscle work can take from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on the techniques used by the doctor to treat muscle imbalances.

If you have uneven hips and shoulders, see a professional chiropractor who can help you correct it. Letting your shoulders and hips become uneven will not only seem annoying, but can also cause pain and immobility in your neck, shoulders, and back.

lateral pelvic tilt chiropractorTo help alleviate stiffness and reverse the effects of uneven hips and shoulders, you will want to work with a chiropractor who can help you identify the underlying cause of your imbalance. Your problem may be undetected scoliosis, muscle tension or general misalignment.

From there, your chiropractor can correct the misalignment through exercises and stretches to relax the muscles and manipulations of the spine so that each vertebra returns to where it should be. Once everything is properly aligned, you may notice a difference immediately or soon after.
